The Eero network seems to have used one of the other Eero devices that actually WAS connected the wired LAN to maintain connectivity between the Gateway Eero and the rest of the house as a wired connection (albeit a slightly slower one). It essentially took what was a WiFi only network and converted it into a wired network without me having to do anything. A big kudos to the engineers at Eero. If all eero is providing is wireless (mesh wireless FTW), and you have another router you feel comfortable setting up and will run your VPN, put Eero in bridge mode and be done. If you don't have another router/firewall, or you do want the eero to be your router/firewall, you can still run a VPN appliance/service behind it. Native VPN has been available for years elsewhere and it is past time that Eero add native VPN to its features on its current devices and not just the next generations. I have subscribed to Eero Plus, and am happy to retain that subscription even if only for VPN access while away from home, but I REALLY want a native VPN option on Eero. I left Orbi for Eero due to current Orbi stability issues, but Netgear will work those out over time, and Orbi supports VPN, which will tempt me (and others) to move on from Eero.
